Honest Review – Food For The Soul With Soule Soups
Dubai’s recent wet & wintery weather has had me craving all the best home creature comforts; and top of that list has to be the humble hug-in-a-mug, soup! To be honest, I am a fussy one with soups. Soup isn’t often a meal of choice at home, or when I am out. But when I do have one, I REALLY enjoy it. You can imagine my anticipation when I was offered the chance to try out Soule Soups.
SOULE SOUPS creates homemade soups made of the freshest vegetables from farms around the UAE, delivering daily fresh soups to patrons across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and the rest of the UAE. So fresh, that when I arrived to collect my order they were just being poured from the hob into Soule Soups thoughtfully provided recyclable packets!
While visiting Philotimos (A restaurant owned by Soule Soups Co-Founders) to try out their business lunch, I collected Roasted Pumpkin, Green Asparagus, Tomato, and Shiro Miso to take home and try with the family. I loved the Roasted Pumpkin from my first spoonful to the last – I declare it my favourite so far! The soup was packed full of flavour whilst tasting wholesome and comforting, offering a much-needed dose of warmth on a rainy day! I paired the soup with a cheese toastie, which was the icing on the cake. Their tomato soup also works well with a toastie or toasted slice of sourdough and a generous helping of real butter… My husband and son really enjoyed the Green Asparagus soup and unfortunately, I didn’t get much of a look in but will be adding it to my list to try next.
The Shiro Miso soup is an acquired taste in my opinion. Whilst it’s a little too salty for my taste buds, my husband demolished it on an evening he had a cold! A great pick-me-up soup that’s got a strong flavour profile great for packing a punch for those days you feel ‘meh’.
Soule Soups have an array of options to choose from and I will definitely be adding them as a staple to my monthly grocery list. I’m currently eyeing the Potato and Leek, Mushroom, and Roasted Cauliflower soups. Soule Soups also offer cold soups and bone broths, including vegan options.
Soul soups are available to order direct from the company’s website at www.soulesoups.com and are also available to be purchased from Spinneys, Waitrose, Deliveroo, and Kibsons. Soups start from a very reasonable 15AED and go up to 22AED per packet. 1 packet easily served me and my 6-year-old son too.
Meet The Founders
I was lucky enough to meet Soule Soups Co-Founder Spero Panagakis in his newly launched Greek restaurant Philotimos when I went to collect my soups. Spero is an Aussie with Greek heritage and a passion for authentic food. He’s a veteran in the industry with over twenty-four years of experience as a restauranteur, opening, running and managing operations. From the way he spoke about the ingredients of the soups – how his food is made and where the ingredients are sourced – I trusted the brand immediately. A founder’s passion for their business can’t be faked! He invited me to try out the Philotimos business brunch (since I was already in the vicinity), located in Dar Al Wasl Mall in the heart of Jumeirah and it was well worth it! The meze was the highlight, especially the Horiatiki (Classic Greek salad) as well as the catch-of-the-day. The business lunch runs daily from 12 pm – 4 pm and is just 85AED for 3 courses and a drink – bargain!
Spero heads and co-owns Soule Soups, Philotimos, and BB Social Dining, along with co-founder and classically trained French chef, Alexander Stumpf. Between them, they have a wealth of F&B and hospitality experience and a huge love for food and all it encompasses. Watch this space! This duo is about to take the F&B scene in the UAE by storm.
